1993 Saturn SL1
Our first Readers' Ride, surprisingly, is a '93 Saturn SL1. A four-door, four cylinder economy car.
Many of you may be thinking, "Now what's so exciting about a Saturn?!" Well, ask yourself this: How many Mustangs have you seen out there lowered with a two-city-block stereo, with 15 extra gauges up the A-Pilar? Or, how many Honda Civics, dropped to 2 inches off the cement, with spoilers that could pull down a 747? This list goes on and on. The fact remains that a done-up Saturn is not the usual car parked on the strip at Wasaga beach every summer.
You are probably wondering what makes Matt's Saturn worthy of the prestige of the Readers' Ride column. Well, it could be the 16" MSR 1100 Rims with P205/40R16 Dunlop tires. Perhaps its the custom interior paint, white on blue. It could also be the sweet little stereo system he added, composed of a Sony deck, four 6.5" Pioneers, two 10" Pioneer MMP subs powered by the Logic 620.
We say its the whole packege because once you factor into this equation that Matt is only 18 years young, he financed the whole project working in Canadian Tire's auto parts department, while in college for Power Engineering, we are sure you would agree! We can't wait to see what this car would look like on the salary of an Engineer!
Contemplating whether or not modifying a Saturn is worth it? Consider this: Matt's Saturn was struck from behind by a '91 Cavalier pretty hard. Well, had enough to cause the Cavalier to require a new Rad, bumper and paint job. As for the Matt's SL1, it was unharmed thanks to Saturns' well-known impact protection designing. Thats what I would call peace-of-mind for your investment.

Stereo
| Like many young gentlemen, Matt's first goal was to transfer his whole stereo from his previous car, into his new SL1: |

 |
A Sony head unit, pioneer 6 1/2's all round, with two 10" Pioneer subs driven by a Logic 620 amplifier. The SL1 is appropriately secured by an Avital alarm system, a small step down from the Viper.

Exterior
"Last summer I got 16 inch MSR Rims.
I have blue signal lights and Xeon headlights.
A Raptor muffler with a tip and its loud. I plan on getting a catback system by summer. Stock with a Vibrant intake, Accel coilpacks and Bosch Platinum +4 plugs."
"Hopefully to come this summer will be a catback system (stainless steel), to lower it about 2" using Eibach springs, and if I can find a body kit I would like that. Maybe do some more work to the engine but that is last on the list."

"I have painted odds and ends with a nice blue on the outside including my door handles." |

"I also have a 'SATURN' sticker on my front windshield." |

"I have painted 'SATURN' in white on my back bumper." |

A mini Scorpion spoiler. |

Interior
Neon blue lights under my dash that light up the interior nicely at night.
It looks great expecially with the new white. |

Formerly Daytona yellow, now white on blue. |

Blue Pedals, of course. |

Ontarians DO NOT Pay 45% More For Auto Insurance
This past summer, the Canadian Consumers Association released a report stating that, on average, Ontario drivers pay 45% more for auto insurance than drivers in British Columbia.
I would say this number is out by at least $1,000.00.
But why take my word for it.
